Academy Award winner and American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson, has snagged the role of former South African leader, Winnie Mandela (ex wife of Nelson Mandela) in an upcoming biopic titled Winnie.The biopic will focus on the life of the controversial political figure who championed against apartheid but human rights violations as well as a fraud conviction which brought harsh criticism from her native South Africa.
When asked about playing Winnie Mandela, Hudson said, "I was compelled and moved when I read the script. Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I'm honored to be the actress asked to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told."
Looks like Jennifer is gunning for another Oscar.
